FAQs

Please review the following questions and call your nearest Gravity Vault location with any specific requests or for more detailed information

Q
What can I do at The Gravity Vault?
A

The short answer: Rock Climb. We are dedicated climbing facilities with Top Rope Climbing, Lead Climbing, Bouldering, and Auto-Belays in each of our facilities. We offer options to climb for any experience level and recommend that first time climbers and those who don’t know how to belay work with one of our staff members.

Q
What is belaying?
A

Belaying is the act of managing the ropes as a climber progresses up the wall to keep the climber safe.

Q
I don’t know how to belay, and my family would like to come climb. What are the options?
A

The Gravity Vault offers options to climb including Walk-In Climbing and our most popular Staff Belayed Climbing sessions—a one hour session where an instructor will work with you and your group to keep you safe while using the facility. These options include all the necessary equipment for the top-roped climbing you will be doing. Reservations are needed for some options, call your Gravity Vault today to learn what will work best for your group specifically.

Q
Who can rock climb?
A

Those who are 5 years and older can climb with us, those 14 and over can belay in our facilities. Other than that small age requirement, everyone can rock climb! Look through our Options to Climb to find the program that best suits you.

Q
What should I wear?
A

Generally, something comfortable that will not restrict movement. Long shorts or sweatpants and a t-shirt are all you need. We recommend kids wear sneakers, as they sometimes are not comfortable with climbing shoes.

Q
Do you have options for kids to climb?
A

We sure do! Our Staff Belay Climbing Sessions and Walk-In Climbing are great for any age to do a little climbing any day of the week. We also offer Birthday Parties, Kids’ Classes, Break Camps, Summer Camps, Scout Programs, and Youth Climbing Teams, to name just a few options for kids.

Q
I am an experienced climber, how does this work?
A

We offer a plethora of Day Pass, Punch Pass, and Membership options for using our facilities.

The first time you visit us, you will receive a facility orientation which covers bouldering safety. If you already know how to belay you will also need to demonstrate your skills for our staff through a belay safety check, at that time you will also receive the Auto Belay safety orientation.

Those of you who wish to Lead Climb, will need to pass our Lead Climbing Test after passing the Top-Rope Belay Check, this test has a $5.00 fee which we donate to the Access Fund or other non-profit climbing organization. *You will need your own Climber and Belayer for the lead test.*

Q
You have Auto-Belays; who can use them?
A

You must be belay certified and receive an auto belay safety orientation in order to use the Auto Belay stations in our facilities. After you have met those requirements you are free to use them as often as you like.

Q
I tried climbing once and now I want to learn more, what can I do?
A

We offer a variety of classes from belay classes, to technique classes, to private session packages with our experienced instructors. If you know you like climbing, and want to learn the basics and gain the skills you need to use our facilities on your own, the best place to start is with our Belay Class, offered in all of our facilities 4 days a week.
