General Manager

Job Description:

The Gravity Vault is looking for an outgoing and energetic individual with a strong work ethic to lead our Chatham and Upper Saddle River, NJ facilities as a full-time General Manager. ​The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the gyms and for keeping them in line with the overall company strategy and brand-wide mission.  The candidate will work closely with the Director of Operations as well as each location’s management team to ensure the gyms are clean, operations run smoothly and goals are being met. They must also help create a positive and inclusive climbing environment for climbers of all experience levels.

Job ​Responsibilities 
  • Oversee all facility operations at both locations
  • Become an expert on all programs and options to climb with The Gravity Vault
  • Ensure company and brand wide mission and standards are met and that all employees are updated and comply with The Gravity Vault's policies and procedures on programming, cleanliness, and safety
  • Provide excellent customer service to all customers in person, over the phone, and via email correspondence
  • Train and supervise Gym Managers, Assistant Managers, and Team Coaches while also coordinating with the Route Setting Team
  • Oversee and optimize the weekly schedule to adequately meet the business needs of each gym while maintaining sensitivity to employees’ work/life balance
  • Proactively manage the staffing pool by forecasting future changes in workload and staff availability to determine the need to hire staff in a timely fashion
  • Manage payroll and other operational expenses
  • Coordinate with the management teams to strategize and set goals for both facilities 
  • Plan, execute, and work location and brand wide events including but not limited to climbing competitions and member nights
  • Promote the company through public relations efforts by creating and maintaining local relationships and by sponsoring and/or participating in community events
Requirements
  • Minimum two years management experience in a climbing gym, fitness facility, retail setting or hospitality industry  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask, take initiative and make confident decisions on the fly
  • Willingness to be hands-on, work independently, and as part of a team
  • Must be able to travel to each location on a weekly schedule
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certification required by first day of training
  • Working knowledge of POS Systems, G Suite and scheduling applications preferred

Job Description:
As a Shift Leader at The Gravity Vault you will oversee the smooth operation of the front desk, ensure that safety standards are being met out on the climbing floor, and provide guidance to instructors. This includes taking care of customer issues or complaints, assisting staff in closing/cleaning the gym in a timely manner, and keeping staff on task during our evening hours. The Shift Leader is also responsible for completing key “behind the scenes” tasks to assist the rest of the management team in their daily operations. This is a part time position requiring 20 – 30 hours of work depending upon the applicant’s availability.

As a Team Coach for The Gravity Vault you will facilitate the training for our Youth Climbing Teams.  In the Team Coach role you will have the opportunity to work with other coaching staff to develop and execute training regimens, practice schedules, technique lessons and more. You will mentor the kids as they progress through our program and help them to achieve their climbing goals.

Our Belayers are the staff on the climbing floor and are the embodiment of The Gravity Vault mission statement. They belay, instruct, and motivate new and returning climbers during staff led events for both kids and adults. We need people who are going to provide exceptional customer/climbing experiences for climbers of all abilities and ages!

Basic job duties include but are not limited to providing excellent climbing experiences for all ages and abilities, the ability to instruct and give direction to large groups of people, belaying individuals for different staff led programs including private sessions, team building programs, birthday parties, and classes, and maintaining a clean and safe facility.

We're looking for an outgoing and energetic individual with a strong work ethic to join our team as Manager of our soon to open first ever bouldering only facility in Montclair, NJ.  The Manager will oversee the daily operations of the facility and manage the gym’s staff.  As the face behind the desk of The Gravity Vault, the manager is also one of the primary points of contact for all groups and events held at the facility. Our ideal candidate will strive to create a positive and inclusive climbing environment for climbers of all experience levels, and have fun while doing it!

Job Responsibilities Include:
  • Be the on-site expert on all programs and options to climb with The Gravity Vault
  • Ensure company and brand-wide standards are met and all employees comply with policies and procedures on programming, cleanliness, and safety
  • Train Instructors and Shift Leaders 
  • Oversee and plan staffing for events, classes, and instructor-led climbing options
  • Provide excellent customer service to all of the customers in person, over the phone, and via email correspondence
  • Collaborate with General Manager on all hiring, terminations and performance documentation for all staff
  • Keep the General Manager aware of any operational issues, including late shifts, accidents, etc
