Belay Certification Classes
Belay Certification Classes - Call for Reservations
Top-roping, climbing with ropes, is a two person sport. One person is climbing while their partner belays; secures the slack end of the rope to ensure the climber will not fall. The Gravity Vault offers a Belay Certification class which will teach participants the techniques needed to safely climb with ropes.
The Belay Certification Class is offered at both our Upper Saddle River and Chatham locations three times a week.

Course overview: After a general overview of the sport of climbing, students are taught how to put on a climbing harness, how to tie a figure-eight knot and a double fisherman backup knot and how to belay (the process of managing the ropes while your partner climbs).
We will cover.…
- Climbing Safety
- Verbal Commands
- Rope and Harness Safety
- Overview of the different belay devices – GriGri, ATC, etc.
The group will then start to climb together, actually running the ropes for each other, and encouraging one another. Belay Certification is an excellent way to get introduced to the growing sport of indoor climbing. All rental equipment is included in the price.
Groups of three or more can schedule a private belay certification class at their convenience; please call for pricing and availability.
